BIOGRAFI
Karoline H Larsen er uddannet Billedkunstner fra det Kgl. Danske Kunstakademi i København, 2003.

BIOGRAPHY
Karoline H Larsen graduated as a Visual Artist from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, 2003.
Specialized in art in public space with relational and site-specific practice in temporary and permanent works.
Since 2016, she has worked as a member of the board of the Nordic Theater Laboratory, Holstebro, Dk.
In her work, Karoline artistically relates to people’s sensuality, movements and play in public space. It is the everyday lives of adults, the elderly, young people and children that she brings into play in new ways through her citizen-involving artworks. She herself calls her art practice Creative Actions – creative actions that create new social and physical structures to rediscover how people can meet each other and the surroundings in the city and landscape.
+20 years of experience in collaboration with citizens and professionals in the development and implementation of site-specific artworks in public spaces, including through an 11-year project in Værebro Park, developed methods to engage children, young people and adults, and contributed to the development of urban spaces, where art provides sensory experiences, security, community and local anchoring.
Relational means that the value of art lies in the citizens‛ interaction and reflection with the work.
Site-specific means that the uniqueness of the location is unfolded, and with Karoline’s practice focus is made sensory in the work.
The holistic approach makes the design of the work identity-creating for an area.
High artistic quality in the process and in the physical material expression.
The pre-linguistic sensing human body scale in the landscape.
Karoline’s core practice is the work of unfolding the uniqueness of the place in an encounter with the sensing, human, body scale and translating the studies into a holistic approach in a physical material.
“I investigate the unique movements of the place, such as paths and viewpoints, through repeated visits, both physically and in 3D modeling, where I record with body, drawing, material and thought. I observe how people move, stay and use the place. My form is organic, inspired by the body’s movement and sensation in the place. My works for public space are created at eye level with locals and with a focus on distinctive features in architecture, history, culture and infrastructure – both the physical and the social.”
EXAMPLES OF WORKS,
2024, Stadens puls (the pulse of the city), a site-specific work of art, sketch competition won in 2023.
Excerpt from the information text on the sign on Banegårdsbroen in Kristianstad, Sweden:
„The red zigzag-shaped Bangårdsbron runs like a pulse between Kristianstad’s two major urban areas, city and Näsby, and unites them. The artist Karoline H. Larsen has been inspired by the unique elements in these areas to highlight their common features. The result is the artwork Stadens puls, seven metal sculptures with lights placed on Bangårdsbron.
In the creation of the artwork, Karoline has been inspired by places, signs, shapes, symbols, plants and colors that recur in the two neighborhoods. The citizens who participated in the project came up with three watchwords that the artist has followed: light, color and security. The artwork opens the space like a window or porter to the surrounding landscape and invites the body to physically and emotionally connect to the place.‟ READ MORE HERE
2022, made permanent, 2018 pilot project. Discover your city, an art path in Værebro Park and Bagsværd, with art for kids to climb and meet. Together with the art representatives from five local children’s institutions, Larsen has created the idea of a ZigZag Bridge, a Circle Bridge and a Circular Trail in the area that not only physically ties the area together but also helps create friendships and cooperation across the children’s institutions, as part of large-scale community based project funded by the Danish Arts Foundation, 2018
