Note on ‘Services’
Is it possible for an artist to do ‘services’ for others – or should the artist always work without ‘thinking of the receiver’ and not dare to use the word ‘Services’?
I believe it depends how the term ‘Services’ is carried out. ‘Services’ for me express that I must be aware as an artist that I am part of society with my body and soul and I am consciously contributing to society with my whole being – making service for ‘a bigger entity – the society’ no matter small or big in actual scale and no matter how critical my practice might be of the existing – I am always part of the issue my self.
I also use the term ‘Services’ on my website as a professional artist to point to the fact that also artists have to survive and get food on the table, and ‘a service’ is something you automatically know that you have to pay for if you want it, just like any other job where a person makes a service, and this is no matter what the value of the art work is about; no matter how critical, challenging, impossible, loving, surprising etc. it may be for the public.
